Treatment for Excessive Sweating (Hyperhidrosis)

Treatments for excessive sweating (Hyperhidrosis)

Botulinum Toxin type A (often referred to as Botox TM) is a liquefied protein that is injected in tiny amounts to relax the sweat glands. The relaxation of the sweat glands helps reduce or prevent excessive sweating.

There are 3 Botulinum type A licensed in the UK but only Botox TM has a license to treat excessive sweating. Botox TM is a prescription only medicine and for cosmetic purposes can only be administer after a face-to-face consultation has taken place by a registered prescriber.

Helen is a fully qualified Independent Nurse Prescriber (INP) and can assess, diagnose, prescribe and treat once the prescription has been dispensed.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the treatment take and what is involved?
The treatment takes about 30 minutes. You will have been asked not to wear deodorant for at least 24 hours prior to treatment. When you arrive in clinic your skin will be cleaned, dried and iodine applied to your arm pits. This is left to dry. As you sweat the iodine becomes wet again, a starch based powder is lightly applied, this reacts with the wet iodine to turn it black allowing us to clearly see which sweat glands are over working. This area is then marked out with a grid and a tiny injection is put into each grid point.
