Medical skin needling

Skin needling, also known as microneedling therapy, collagen induction therapy (CIT), and percutaneous collagen induction (PCI), is a minimally invasive skin-rejuvenation procedure that involves the use of a device that contains fine needles. The needles are used to puncture the skin to create a controlled skin injury. Each puncture creates a channel that triggers the body to fill these microscopic wounds by producing new collagen and elastin in the skin. The process leads to skin rejuvenation causing an improvement in skin texture and firmness, as well as reduction in scars, pore size, and stretch marks.

There are various skin needling devices but here at Fresh Faces we use either Genuine Dermaroller® or Derma FNS.

Genuine Dermaroller® is a manual roller and is available in various different needle lengths. Genuine Dermaroller® also produce a roller for home use. Derma FNSâ„¢ is a mechanical needling device.

Professional skin needling is considered to be one of the safest skin treatment procedures. Unlike most chemical peels, dermabrasion and laser treatments, skin needling causes minimal damage to the skin. Derma FNSâ„¢ uses multiple needles that vertically pierce the skin to create similar vertical channels which are designed to achieve the same effect, with minimal epidermal damage. It is thought that it is the greater density of channels that leads to enhanced results over dermal rollers. Derma FNSâ„¢ uses vertical insertions to create thousands of tiny holes in the skin causing the release of serum growth factors which stimulate the breakdown of old fibrous collagen and stimulate new collagen and elastin development.

Derma FNSâ„¢ results are comparable in effect to ablative treatments such as Fraxel, IPL and Laser Resurfacing but at a fraction of the cost and with much less downtime and minimal damage to the integrity of the skin.
