Lip enhancements are one of the most popular procedures at Fresh Faces. This is a treatment that appeals to a much wider cross section of patients. With older patients often looking to restore lost volume and improve lip lines and wrinkles, to the younger patient who simply wants bigger lips. We of course also treat those with genuine lip abnormalities eg Cleft lip or Hair lip.
When treating the Lip area we always use a hyaluronic acid filler, it is most suited for this type of tissue and can be dissolved should any complications arise.
Fresh Faces has a reputation for natural and subtle lip enhancements, we don't subscribe to the "done" or "false" look.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is it safe?
Fillers are generally safe when in the hands of an experienced practitioner who knows what they are doing and importantly how to recognize and deal with complications should they arise. All potential risks and side effects will be discussed with you at consultation and prior to treatment. The most common side effects are bruising and swelling. With this in mind you should think carefully about when you want to have your treatment. Swelling with lips can be significant.
How quickly will I see results?
The results with dermal fillers are immediate. However on the day of treatment you may well have some swelling and bruising. The ultimate results with hyaluronic acid fillers will be seen once any swelling and bruising has settled, we would usually advise that this can take up to 2 weeks. The results that you should expect will be discussed before you are treated.
Will it hurt?
Modern day fillers nearly all have local anaesthetic within the gel. Topical anaesthetic will be applied to the skin prior to injection. This will be left on for approximately 40-60 minutes, couple that with the correct choice of needle or cannula to inject the product and most people find the treatment only mildly stingy or uncomfortable. It has been liked to squeezing a spot on the lip edge. It is also possible to use a local anaesthetic if required.
How much filler needs to be used for a natural enhancement?
This varies from patient to patient and depends on a number of different factors including the original size of your lip and how old you are. The expected results will be discussed with you at length before you proceed with a treatment. Less is very much more with lips and it is better to put too little in rather than too much. We often enhance lips in stages, too much in one go can be overwhelming visually as well as physically.
I sometimes get cold sores is this a problem?
No so long as you don't have any sign of an active cold sore. Some people will need to be treated to prevent cold sores. This will be discussed at your consultation and an individual plan will be decided for you.
